It was hard to get a reservation at Sushi Tetsu. First, we had to figure out how the reservation system worked. It turns out that reservations are made only by phone on specific days. So it took 170 redials and a month later we were crossing a tiny passage to find the tiny Japanese restaurant. Only 7 seats are available, lunch starts at 11.45 and finishes around 2 - 2 1/2 hours later. Dinner is double sitting.
Food at Sushi Tetsu is a performance. A discreet, masterful interpretation of sushi making. It was as if we were watching a Samurai with his sword, not a chef with his knife! Beautiful to watch, yet intimate to be involved.
Food was as expected simple, fresh and perfect by Japanese standards. On the day of the visit we had the Omakase menu which was reasonably priced at ￡88 and it included sushi and sashimi (the fatty tuna was sensational!). With the addition of sake, water and beers the bill came to 218 British pounds...
