The Copenhagen Opera House, appears to be sitting on water as it was built in the island of Holmen. Even though this was a half a billion private donation, still it caused some controversy because of the huge tax deductibles of the beneficiaries.
The modern building hosts a lot of operas and plays yearly and besides the solid performances, expect perfect organizing and acoustics by the Danish. Architectural wise, the obscure exterior is in contrast with the smooth interior work, with its tropical wood, earthy tones and impressive chandeliers. If you are an opera lover, be aware of cheap deals when purchasing tickets, and make sure you don't end up with standing seats, unless that is what you want.
