Almost a thousand years old, the Royal Palace and Fortress on the banks of Thames, known as the Tower of London, was functioning as a prison till recently (1952). It has several buildings and they all had their significance and function throughout the years including being a royal residence, an armory, and a treasury.

The emblematic building, being a symbol of the nation, ended up being under siege several times through warfare and uprising.

The castle and the Crown Jewels museum are open for tourists, and you can use your London Pass for entrance. Just make sure you go early for the Crown Jewels as it gets very crowded.
