When Athens received a second restaurant with 2 Michelin stars, the culinary world became interested in Funky Gourmet.
Funky Gourmet is not a “one man show”. It’s a team. When we visited, the 2 chefs were not there. So, this creative, funky machine was working with the rest of the team. The 3 owners were all in different occupations and fields, when they decided to shift to the restaurant business in 2007. They are now a force to be reckoned with!
Let’s take it from the beginning. Funky Gourmet is located in an alley, a dead end, with lots of beautiful neoclassical ghost structures. The financial problems of the city are evident in these deserted houses. The restaurant is on the second floor of such a building. Getting there is a bit tricky with the narrow-curvy staircase but once you get in, it's showtime! The all window floor has a well-let empty house as a backdrop...
