Although The Angel at Hetton has recently received its Michelin star under the lead of chef Michael, its name is quite well known in the gastropub world. But the truth is that it seems more of a 3-star restaurant than a one star pub nowadays.
On the night of the visit, we booked a room with a 3-course meal for 2, at £430 so we sticked with this plan, even though there was an option for degustation.
We had the crab and rabbit for starters, and the lamb and pigeon for mains. Overall, this was a fine dining experience that would impress even the most demanding customers. The food was sensational, with immaculate presentation. Small portions but deep flavours, that made us wish we tried the full degustation.
Service was young and friendly and efficient. The space looks a bit Nordic in decoration and less British, with minimal decoration.
This one is going places with this team on board.
