The most important part of tapas hopping, is spotting the classic and authentic bars where the locals prefer.
The first choice would be Bar Astelena (not Restaurant Astelena), near the Plaza Constitucion. Brilliant food served in beautiful little plates in the most casual and relaxed atmosphere. Well, not really relaxed since it is chaos in there.
It will be quite hard to get the waiter’s attention at the beginning. But once you come again and again he will get to know you and service will be faster.
Your best bet, if you have no idea what to eat, is to start ordering from the blackboard randomly since everything is in Spanish or get suggestions. Everything is amazing and so inexpensive.
Priced from €3 to €4 you will eat the cheapest Foie Gras in the world! And that is not an exaggeration.
Astelena is probably one of the finest pintxos in Spain. The real McCoy...
