"A popular tourist square in the heart of Girona's Mercadal district."

With references to the war of Spanish Independence against Napoleon Bonaparte, Plaça de la Independència (or Plaça de Sant Agustí) is a popular square in the heart of the Mercadal district. The surrounding neoclassical buildings with porches and the overall symmetry define the arcade square's Noucentisme style.

Nowadays, the area accommodates cafes and restaurants as it is a tourist spot.
