The Vittorio Emanuele II monument is located close to the Colosseum in Piazza Venezia, and it is quite impressive. Especially at night. The 1911 white marble monument honors Vittorio Emanuele, who was the first king of the united Italy.
It is a complicated structure featuring stairways, columns in Corinthian style, fountains, Victor Emmanuel as an an equestrian and statues of the goddess Victoria.
At the ground level of the Vittorio Emanuele II monument, there is the museum of the Italian Unification.
An elevator is at the disposal of visitors who wish to catch some pictures of Rome for €7 (and don't feel like climbing).
