Although nowadays the building houses a casual restaurant with Ganda ham legs hanging from the roof, back in the 15th century, the Great Butcher Hall (Groot Vleeshuis) in Ghent was a centralized indoor meat market. It has a gorgeous wooden roof resembling the structure of an upside down boat. The Great Butcher’s Hall also functions as a permanent promotion center for East Flemish products, so expect to be served the in-house restaurant dishes, such as mixed Flemish meats and cheeses and local beer.
