Wineries in Bordeaux

The famous wine producing region of Bordeaux offers some magnificent landscapes with vineyards on both sides of the river bank. Wine quality depends on which side of the river it is grown and harvested as wineries are divided into the more prestigious Left Bank (The Médoc including Margaux and Graves) and the Right Bank (Saint Emilion and Pomerol).

Visiting the wineries and the chateaux of this region is done by appointment.

Bordeaux's official Tourist Information Centre can help you organize your wine trips and get information about the famous wine roads. You can book your reservation for guided tours but this comes at an additional cost of €6 for 2 bookings or €12 for 3. There are also bus tours if you do not have a car.

You can also make the bookings yourself by phone, if you feel like it. Tours may be free or cost anything up to €7 depending on whether a personal guide is required or not. Some of tours include within the price a wine tasting session.  Keep in mind that you can't really do more than 3 tours in one day without rushing. Watch for the time as many chateaux close for lunch between 12 and 2 pm.
